Russia fires a missile at a civilian vessel in the Black Sea

The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said on Thursday Russia has fired a missile at a civilian ship in the Black Sea.

The ship was carrying wheat bound for Egypt and shortly after leaving port the missile struck the vessel.

President Zelensky said, “A Russian missile struck a shipment of wheat for Egypt.

“Today’s attack in the Black Sea targeted a civilian vessel shortly after leaving Ukrainian territorial waters.”

He added, “Our food supply to African and Middle East countries is critical. We will continue to do everything to protect our ports, the Black Sea, and our food exports to the global market.

“Protecting lives is Ukraine’s priority, and it must be a priority for every nation.”

The President said that no casualties have been reported thus far and he emphasised that Ukraine is donor of food globally which is key for the survival and stability of many countries, RBC-Ukraine reports.

He said, “Wheat and food security must never be a target for missiles.”

Last year Russia fired “multiple missiles” at a civilian cargo ship in the Black Sea on 24 August, according to declassified intelligence says.
