Ukrainian intelligence has suggested that Kyiv’s specialists have made attempts to assassinate Vladimir Putin as well as others since 2022.

The head of Ukraine’s intelligence Kirill Budanov said that Putin is paranoid about being killed and his security.

Last week Putin’s summer residence received new air defences as Ukrainian drone attacks has increased inside mainland Russia.

The Valdai residence is a high-profile target and several Pantsir-S1 air defence systems have been positioned at the presidential lodge in the Novgorod region.

“Ukrainian drone strikes deep within Russia continue to pressure Russia’s air defense umbrella and force the Russian military command to prioritise allocating limited air defense assets to cover what it deems to be high-value targets,” the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

The head of Ukraine’s intelligence told channel NV, “The attempts (to kill Putin) did happen, but, as you can see, they have also been unsuccessful so far.”

Budanov said that if Putin is assassinated Russian citizens will be psychologically affected by his death as many were when Joseph Stalin died.

Budanov said he recalls a grandmother who was around when Stalin died, he said, “She said that people then felt like their whole world had collapsed, it was unclear how to live on.

“Putin has been in power for over 20-years, so it will be a very similar feeling, and now Russians are afraid of losing him because he is the guarantor of their life stability.”

The Kremlin has also accused “the USA and Britain” for assassination attempts on Putin and attempts by Ukraine to kill Putin was backed “with US money.”

Budanov the head of Ukraine’s military intelligence agency (GRU) said that assassination attempts “were made, but as you can see they were unsuccessful.”

The Russian leader’s spokesman said, “All threats from the Kyiv regime are obvious. Therefore, the security of the first person is ensured at the proper level.”

The Russian foreign ministry official Maria Zakharova accused Kyiv of “preparing attempts” to kill Putin.

She said, “One of the leaders of the Kyiv regime, Budanov, openly admitted that Ukrainian intelligence was preparing attempts to take the life of the Russian President.”

She added that the assassination attempts was “prepared” by using “American money,” but she failed to produce any evidence.

Pro-Kremlin military analyst Sergey Markov said, “Putin is the target.

“And not only for the SBU [Ukrainian security service] and the [GRU] but also four the intelligence services of the USA and Britain and dozens of intelligence services of the world subordinate to them.

“This is why I believe that Putin should not make visits abroad at all, even to friendly countries.

“Russia has not yet decided how to respond. And so far there is no response. And this only encourages the enemy to escalate.”
