German police have said a “major operation” is underway after “a suspicious person” fired shots outside the Israeli Consulate-General in Munich on the anniversary of the Olympics massacre in 1972.
On Thursday morning office workers close to Karolinenplatz, Munich placed footage on social media after which “numerous emergency personnel” attended the scene.
German police confirmed they had “fired shots at a suspicious person” who was “hit” and “shot dead” close to the Nazi-era museum and Israeli Consulate.
German left-wing politician Martina Rennet said this incident tool place on the 52nd anniversary of the Munich Olympics massacre on 5 September 1972.
The Palestinian terrorist group Black September killed 12 Olympians, 11 were Israeli.
The Munich Security Conference (MSC) is also situated on Karolinenplatz along with other political offices.

MSC deputy chairman and CEO Benedikt Franke told the German newspaper Bild, “Our office, which is located right next to the NS Documentation Centre in downtown Munich, is currently cordoned off by the police.
“Our employees are in lockdown. At exactly 9.10am, there was a loud bang. At least a dozen shots were heard. We don’t know any more at the moment.
“A large contingent of emergency services is currently deployed on the street.”
Munich police said in a statement, “Police officers spotted a person who appeared to be carrying a firearm. The emergency services used their service weapons and the person was hit and injured.
“There are currently no indications of any other suspects in connection with the operation.
“Many forces are on site at the incident site and are clarifying the situation. Further information will follow.”
