Explosions rock Russia air base in Crimea and an ammunition depot

On Thursday night explosions rocked the Russian air base in Saki, Crimea an ammunition depot was also hit in the strike in the town of Novofedorivka, western Crimea, the Crimean Wind reported.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said that details of the missile attack are being processed to determine the full extent of the damage.

He said on Telegram on Friday morning, “Tonight, units of the missile forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in cooperation with other components of the Defense Forces, within the framework of a single plan, struck the Saki airfield in the temporarily occupied Crimea.”

The defence chief said that Saki airfield is one of the “operational airfields that Russia uses to control airspace in particular the Black Sea, and to launch air strikes on Ukrainian territory.”

The message adds, “It is important to note that the airport was covered by ‘modern’ Russian air defense systems, which once again failed to protect an important military facility of the Russian Federation.”
